S T

Travel opens our eyes to the world. But it also creates the challenge of protecting the people and places we love to visit. In ST, explore the intrinsically-linked fields of tourism and sustainability to tackle this challenge. By combining these two fields and learning with a multicultural peer group peers, you'll gain the skills to become a global leader who can shape a sustainable society.

Advantage 1

JAPAN’S ONLY COLLEGE DEDICATED TO SUSTAINABILITY AND TOURISM.

Tourism depends on people, culture, and the local environment, but without protection, these resources aren't sustainable long-term. From overtourism to regional economic decline, today’s issues require more than just travel planning. In ST, you’ll master sustainability (society-building) and tourism studies (economic and cultural impact) to transform global perspectives into real-world solutions.

Advantage 2

LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM THROUGH FIELDWORK.

Step into real communities and see their challenges firsthand. By learning from local voices and experts, and facing real-world complexities, you will analyze problems on a deeper level, begin to envision your future role in society, and develop the skills needed to take real action.

FAQ

Find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about ST and its sustainability and tourism program.

Q.
I don't speak Japanese. Can I still study in ST?
A.

Yes, absolutely. Many of our international students arrive with no prior Japanese language skills. Since most courses are offered in both English and Japanese, you only need proficiency in one of these languages before enrolling.
To graduate, all students are required to take intensive language courses (Japanese for English-basis students and English for Japanese-basis students). We strongly recommend learning basic Japanese before you arrive in Japan to help you adjust smoothly and have a strong start in your language courses.

Q.
How much science knowledge do I need before applying?
A.

No specific background in science is required. Regardless of your academic background, our curriculum is designed to help you gain the necessary knowledge and skills tailored to your own interests.

Q.
What degree will I receive?
A.

ST graduates earn a Bachelor of Sustainability and Tourism. This degree serves as proof of your ability to integrate social and environmental perspectives with the tourism studies to shape a more sustainable future. This professional credential prepares you to lead across a wide range of sectors, including international business and hospitality, regional development, and environmental management.
