APU provides various scholarships for outstanding students. The following scholarships are targeted for students who will obtain the "College Student" visa before enrollment as described in the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act. If you do not possess the "College Student" visa, you will not be eligible to receive scholarships, and other privileges for international students.


APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship

Individuals who will obtain the "College Student" visa before enrollment are eligible to apply for the APU tuition reduction scholarship at the time of application. If you do not obtain the "College Student" visa before enrollment, your APU tuition reduction scholarship will be revoked at the time of application, even if you are awarded with the scholarship in your letter of acceptance.Those who wish to apply for this scholarship are to complete the designated APU scholarship application essay.

This scholarship is made available by the financial contributions of domestic and international companies and individuals, togather with the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) that support the ideals of APU, and its purpose is to help reduce the financial burden for outstanding international students of lesser financial means. Students awarded with this scholarship are expected to serve as role models for their country.
The scholarship will remain valid until graduation for their country, provided that the recipient manages to maintain a good academic record and avoid any misconduct unbefitting that of a scholarship recipient. In case of inappropriate behavior or conduct that tarnishes the reputation of the university, the scholarship will be revoked. Interested applicants are to submit their scholarship application upon understanding of the above.

An overall evaluation of all submitted documents will be conducted along with the application screening, and the scholarship result will be notified together with the application result.
Official language test scores, such as the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), TOEFL®, IELTS (Academic),etc, are considered favorably during the scholarship evaluation, thus applicants are encouraged to take the above tests. For Japanese-basis applicants who have undertaken their official education in Japanese medium for the most recent 6 years, or English-basis applicants who have undertaken their official education in English medium in the United States, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand and Singapore for the most recent 6 years,it is not necessary to submit the language test scores in the respective language.
Tuition reduction only covers the least amount of credits required to graduate within the standard period of time.

Other scholarships

For students who receive excellent results after enrollment, it is possible to receive scholarships from MEXT, regional organizations (Oita Prefecture, Beppu City, etc) and other private scholarship foundations. Scholarships are also available for self-motivated students who have produced remarkable results in their own activities.
